Pleasures and Privileges of Membership in The Lotos Club

  • The Clubhouse
    • The Lotos clubhouse is located at 5 East Sixty-sixth Street, just off Fifth Avenue in New York City. It is in every way a home. Built in 1900 for Maria Vanderbilt Shepard and William Jay Schieffelin, it has been lovingly restored. Members and guests alike treasure a setting that is timelessly beautiful, but not ostentatious; perfectly elegant, yet comfortable. The Club’s staff is amiable and attentive, but never intrusive.

  • Events
    • Lotos has more than one hundred events each year, including talks on the arts, public affairs and science and technology, dinners honoring eminent figures, recitals and cabaret evenings, art exhibits, and small discussion groups on topics including history, art, opera, poetry, and literature.

Since 1872, Lotos has held more than 400 “State Dinners” for distinguished guests in all fields of achievement, from Enrico Caruso to Tony Bennett; Mark Twain to Saul Bellow; explorer Henry Stanley to astronaut Scott Carpenter; prominent actors, opera singers, diplomats, business leaders and six U.S. presidents.

The Club’s most festive event each year is the black-tie Twelfth Night Frolic, an evening of great food, dancing and camaraderie.

  • Club Dining
    • The Lotos Club takes great pride in its cuisine, offering members and their guests a uniquely personal fine dining experience. The Grill Room is located in the lower level of the clubhouse. A wonderful, very “clubby” room, the Grill is decorated with Lotos memorabilia and art.

  • Private Dining
    • Lotos members find that one of the nicest benefits of Lotos membership is the ability to use the Club’s elegant rooms for their own events. Many consider Lotos their “home away from home” for entertaining, hosting family and business events, including weddings, rehearsal dinners, birthday and anniversary celebrations, wedding or baby showers, dinner parties, cocktail parties, and so on.

  • Bedrooms
    • The Lotos clubhouse has fourteen beautifully appointed bedrooms for use by members and their guests. Each has a private bath, cable television, wireless internet and a mini-bar. Complimentary continental breakfast is offered each morning.

  • Reciprocal Clubs
    • Lotos has an extensive network of affiliated clubs in major U.S. cities and abroad. These clubs extend to Lotos members all the privileges of their clubhouses, including dining, overnight accommodations and, in some cases, the ability to host a private party.

  • Spouse Privileges
    • Spouses of Lotos members may attend Club events, dine in the Grill Room, reserve bedrooms and use the Club’s rooms for private parties.
